Orbs of indefinable scale, could be models of ginormous planets or microscopic cells. The title refers to the telescopic ‘reading’ of the stars to navigate us in time and space, mirroring the analysis at the microscopic level of physiological diagnosis; perceptions beyond the naked eye that inspire awe. The miniature too plays with our sense of wonder - drawing the mind and body of the maker and viewer into the replica as if what they see is a ‘whole world’.
The Small House Gallery becomes its own kind of solar system or living organism. Taking the poetic associations in the architecture of an attic, living rooms, and basement space, the work materialises into forms that describe the beginning of things that multiply, bulge, metastasise, fragment and decay.
